The RxArt Team was invited by Brooklyn-based artist Robert Lazzarini for a studio visit to get an up close and personal look at his visually stunning sculptures and drawings. Robert Lazzarini is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City and has mastered the art of visual manipulation in his artwork. Lazzarini’s sculptures manipulate the visual world by distorting the visual aspect of everything from an everyday telephone to a large bank vault. He combines his artistic talent with his in-depth knowledge of mathematics and physics to create beautiful pieces of art that present to us new perspectives of objects that we find in everyday living. The amazing thing about the construction of his sculptures is that all of his works are fabricated out of the same exact materials that make up the actual product.
Robert Lazzarini’s work has been exhibited all over the world, from solo shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C. to group shows in Switzerland and Austria. He has also collaborated with other contemporary artists such as RxArt’s friend, KAWS and master printer Gary Lichtenstein. RxArt is proud to feature Lazzarini’s work in our newest coloring book project, ”Between the Lines, Vol. 3.”
We want to thank Robert Lazzarini and his team for having us at the studio and giving us a tour of his completed works and a preview of his upcoming projects. All we can say is, if you like Harley Davidson motorcycles you are in for an unbelievable visual experience!
Along with being featured in “Between The Lines, Vol. 3” with a more of today’s most celebrated contemporary artists, Robert Lazzarini will be donating an artwork to this year’s RxArt 11th Anniversary Gala. If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet, just head over to our website for further information. Enjoy a night of wonderful art for a great cause. The event will be one to remember.
While the rain and gloom persists, RxArt has reason to keep our heads high!
Last week, we hosted a breakfast with old friends, new faces, and artist Kate Shepherd, whose fabulous works are displayed in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Roosevelt Hospital. Guests came together to discuss our mission and learn about future projects while indulging in mimosas and sweet and savory treats from City Bakery and CeciCela Patisserie. Everyone left with excitement for RxArt’s bright future as well as a goody bag compliments of the ever-fabulous Baking for Good.
We’d like to extend our sincerest thanks to the Weiser Family who so graciously opened their home and shared their incredible art collection; also, to Kate Shepherd for being a longtime friend of the organization. We’re endlessly grateful to all for your continued support, and look forward to many more scrumptious (and educational) events!
RxArt is thrilled to announce that we’ll be featured on NPR’s program “All Things Considered” today at 4:00 pm EST. Put on your listening ears and gather round the computer where you can tune in on WNYC. If you happen to miss the live show, fear not! NPR’s segments can be found on their website and on iTunes Podcasts. We hope you’ll join us for an educational coffee break in t minus 27 minutes (we’re warming our mugs as we type this post)!
For all of you KAWS fans, be on the look out for his new exciting collaborative piece with Disney. KAWS has left his recognizable mark on Pinocchio and his little buddy Jiminy Cricket. This piece was first displayed at his gallery showing at the Aldrich, which created quite a stir to say the least. News quickly hit the internet, which fueled excitement and anticipation for a public release. As with all KAWS figures, they’re in extremely limited supply. They have already released overseas in Asia with a US release to closely follow, so head to your favorite KAWS retailer and find your spot in the queue.
Along with other great artists that contributed original line drawings, KAWS also can be found in our limited edition Between the Lines, Vol. 2. So if you’re not able to get your hands on a limited edition figurine, this is your chance to own some of his work and create your very own artist collaboration!

With the recent heat wave in NYC, it seems as though the end of summer is far from “just around the corner.” But when temperatures finally begin to drop in the city, RxArt will start to heat up as we prepare for our 10th Anniversary Gala—aptly named the RxArt Party—this fall.
2010 is an extra special year for us, as RxArt is proudly recognizing a decade of enlivening hospitals with fine art! Our Party will be held in honor of some major accomplishments—including our recent completion of the Jeff Koons CT Scan Suite project as well as exciting collaborations with Ryan McGinley and Terry Richardson for Kings County Hospital—and we invite you to join us in celebration with a night of music, cocktails, and an exclusive contemporary art auction!
Please visit our official website www.rxart.net or just click on the “Save The Date” poster above for more details about the big event.
We also encourage you to stay up to date by following us on Twitter and becoming a fan on Facebook, as we’ll be posting new information in the coming days and weeks (like the announcement of our guest DJs)!
Be sure to mark your calenders for Monday, November 15th, 2010—it’s guaranteed to be an unforgettable night!
The visual landscape by the RxArt office has once again changed on Houston Street and Bowery thanks to artists Barry McGee and fellow graf writer Josh Lazcano (aka Amaze). The infamous wall on Houston St. and Bowery has been the canvas for such artists as Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, and Keith Haring. The mission for Barry McGee and Josh Lazcano’s new work was to tag as many graf writers call signs as possible.
Their work began in the late evening and continued to the wee hours of the morning. McGee and Lazcano decorated the wall with signatures of fellow writers in a distinctive red color. The names included those from distant past to present day. Stroll by Houston St. and Bowery and check out the finished mural in person and when your done head down to the Half Gallery and say hello to the RxArt Team.
